Bone Broth for Anti-Aging, Gut Health, Cellulite, Weight Loss, Hair, Fighting Acne and More!

Looks light – but it is actually rather hardy!

The word has been out on bone broth for some time now thanks to countless celebrity endorsements of trendsetters like Gwyneth Paltrow. As an anti-aging expert and weight loss consultant, I can confirm that the magic is true!  We always have something to learn from our ancestors and bone broth is no exception.

When we were a younger society living without processed and packaged foods, we had our own farms and livestock.   Waste and garbage were virtually non-existent at this time because our forbears thriftily made use of everything.  Livestock was food but also, leather, pillow stuffing etc. Today, most people buy parts of animals when they want to eat meat: ribs, breasts, thighs.  The whole animal is discarded elsewhere.  However, by participating in a faster, ‘easier’ life we are missing out on the secrets hidden within what was handed to us i.e. those mysteries locked within the perfection of nature as untouched by man.  The more I learn about them, the more incredulous I am about how they have been overlooked as non-invasive or harmless solutions/cures for health and beauty!

One of the ‘secrets’ is bone broth.  It is a confirmed anti-aging asset as it helps plump skin, diminish wrinkles and supports nail and hair health.  It is full of all kinds of nutrients which help the gut – the seat of all wellness and digestion.

What are the Nutrients in Bone Broth?

Collagen – The main nutrient in bone broth for skin, hair and nails is collagen! Bone broth is loaded with collagen, a protein found in the connective tissue, cartilage, bone marrow, tendons, ligaments and bones of cows, goats, sheep and other vertebrates. Collagen is what maintains skin elasticity and firmness as well as promotes smooth and supple skin.

Bone broth is a wonder for your skin, hair and nails!

Food Order and Combining – Why it is Important for Beauty, Health, Energy and Weight Loss

Choosing what to eat and when to eat and what to eat it with are questions that everyone faces daily. Most of us are calorie counters following mainstream diet trends that we pick up from beauty magazines, friends or hear that our favorite celebs are following. But few of us have been educated on the importance of food sequence or food combining. For me, it was a revelation that took pounds off, increased my energy and made my skin glow! I credit the books of Natalia Rose (guru and goddess) and the incredible Kimberly Snyder. Chapeau ladies!  I wish someone had taught me these practices as a child. My daughter is reaping the benefits!

The trick is to maximize the benefits of the foods that we consume in order to gain crucial vitamins, minerals and enzymes. Proper sequential food ordering and pairing enable us to avoid diets and achieve glowing skin because this practice optimizes digestion. A glorious side effect will be greater energy and deeper sleep. The more effectively you can master this practice the less you will have to work at exercising to lose weight. Optimal digestion leads to natural skin toning!

The Unexpected Glories of Fermented Foods for Health and Anti-aging

Dogs with stomach aches often graze on grass. My stomach was a little addled recently and as I browsed Fairways aisles my eyes lit upon Sunja’s spicy cabbage Kimchi. My gut yelled “grab it” and I did. I’ve always been fond of kimchi but it is not a snack food that leaps immediately to mind. However, I noticed that whatever was troubling my stomach disappeared pretty quickly post kimchi. Was kimchi the equivalent of grass for humans? Later that day, I was on a play date in Central Park with an old Korean girlfriend who expounded on the miraculous properties of fermented foods. “Probiotics, probiotics, probiotics,” she yelped.  How could I have missed this?

The Magical Elixir Socrates Drank for Health – Great for Weight Loss, Detox, Alkalizing and Anti-Aging

Naturally, I am not referring to his ingestion of hemlock.  No, this article is about apple cider vinegar or APC forthwith.   APC was one of the cleansing bullets I riddled myself with throughout my hedonistic histoire in order to recover from a particularly late night – usually one of those evenings not interrupted by anything as humdrum as sleep.

The mere act of drinking APC was a penitent gesture.  For me, it was (is) hemlock – minus death.  But don’t let me discourage you before you read the 11 reasons you should drink it! Ironically, APC revitalizes, energizes and has all kinds of wonderful effects on the body. (Although I noted that a few ‘medical’ sites had nothing flattering to say about the humble APC.  They hinted its powers are suspect.)  But who can doubt Socrates?  And, don’t doctors and pharmaceuticals WANT you sick if only to stay in business?

A recent trip to the U.S. brought me once again into contact with American TV commercials (when I realized the mute button on the remote didn’t work).  I was dumbstruck by the sheer, endless number of ads dealing with sickness and medical breakthrough ‘cures’ and solutions.  The laughably lengthy list of possible side-effects follows in a semi-whisper. Sprouting: Lola’s Revelation – 10 Reasons to Sprout

My crunchy vegan friends have been harping for years about sprouting.  Sprouting beans, nuts, seeds – if there was a solid crumb on the floor they’d probably snatch it up and cover it in water.  I had only half an ear cocked until I met Lola.

I met her at an art opening in Paris.  She was your basic nightmare – clear-skinned, gorgeous waist-length chestnut hair, mysterious long hooded green eyes, tapering fingers and lips so naturally plump they actually had that little line of cleavage that looks like a cleft in the chin… I was drawn to her and followed her surreptitiously while mulling my opening gambit and wondering if I had finally become a lesbian. (It would make sense given my recent history – but that will be a book so stay tuned…)

Finally, we both lingered in front of a particularly abstract rendition of black and red chaos.  I ventured a tentative comment coupled with a flirty laugh.  She responded.  But I didn’t want to talk about the art.  I wanted to know about her canvas – her perfect skin.  What were her secrets?  It’s not as if she was 30.  She was older.  I could tell by her walk, her attitude.  This was someone that had lived.  Had I finally met another vampire? Maybe we could go somewhere and share a bite…

Like everyone Lola enjoyed a compliment.  A few more and she was ready to share.  Her secret: sprouted beans.  Lola is a vegetarian and she swore up and down about the MAGICAL results of sprouting.  She sprouts beans, nuts and seeds around the clock.  They are her protein, her vitamins, her enzymes – her glorious skin.

But why? But how?

Ghee vs. Butter

For years, my yogi friends have been talking about the magic of ghee.  Frankly, I was only ever half listening to the conversation – until recently when I became obsessed with buckwheat pancakes.  That obsession could take up another article but suffice it to say that for the past 4 weeks I have been having a pancake a day – and it’s now one of the main reasons I get out of bed.  I could not resist having butter with my pancake but every day as I slathered it on  I began to wonder – is this healthy? Are my thighs exploding?  My pants have been feeling a little tight lately…

During a weekend prowl of the most expensive grocery store in Geneva – Globus – I came across a jar of ghee.  It cost $20 and yes – I bought it.  After spreading it on my pancake this morning, I can report: I am hooked.  (Although for $20 I think I can make it myself…) A little research brought me to this fascinating article by Delia Quigley:

DHEA – a Good Hormone Known as the ‘Fountain of Youth’ – Produce More Naturally

In order to slow aging as much as possible it is essential you learn about your body.  Knowing how these perfect machines function is the first step to fine tuning your habits in order to maximize potential.   We are responsible for how our bodies decay and how fast.  In a perfect environment we can dramatically slow the aging process.   The body functions well enough until we stop pummeling it with toxins and fake substances (processed food – perfume etc.).  The closest I ever got to God was the first time I witnessed a human dissection.   Every organ, gland, vein – you name it – has meaning.   Seeing the blackened lungs of a smoker up close made me realize how responsible we are for our body’s condition.

Boosting the production of good hormones is critical to the anti-aging process.   DHEA is one such hormone.

DHEA, or dehydroepiandrosterone, is known as the ‘fountain of youth.’ It is made from cholesterol by the adrenal glands, which sit on top of your kidneys. Estrogen and then testosterone are both made from this steroid hormone. Someone who lacks essential levels of DHEA really can benefit from taking a supplement and they can be easily found in your local health food store. But before you supplement with DHEA capsules, first check with your health care practitioner to make sure that you are in fact deficient in this hormone. Continue reading
