Are you a frequent flier or making a long haul flight for business or pleasure? If you are, know that flying can age you. De-hydration, reduced oxygen, confined space, bad food and over-exposure to too many people and their germs takes its toll on your face and body. Here’s what you can do to protect yourself. Naturally, I am not referring to his ingestion of hemlock. No, this article is about apple cider vinegar or APC forthwith. APC was one of the cleansing bullets I riddled myself with throughout my hedonistic histoire in order to recover from a particularly late night – usually one of those evenings not interrupted by anything as humdrum as sleep.
The mere act of drinking APC was a penitent gesture. For me, it was (is) hemlock – minus death. But don’t let me discourage you before you read the 11 reasons you should drink it! Ironically, APC revitalizes, energizes and has all kinds of wonderful effects on the body. (Although I noted that a few ‘medical’ sites had nothing flattering to say about the humble APC. They hinted its powers are suspect.) But who can doubt Socrates? And, don’t doctors and pharmaceuticals WANT you sick if only to stay in business?
A recent trip to the U.S. brought me once again into contact with American TV commercials (when I realized the mute button on the remote didn’t work). I was dumbstruck by the sheer, endless number of ads dealing with sickness and medical breakthrough ‘cures’ and solutions. The laughably lengthy list of possible side-effects follows in a semi-whisper. Continue reading
I have been drinking teaspoons of oil before bed for years. Throughout my pregnancy, I kept 6 bottles of oil and a spoon next to my bed. Every night, I religiously took a spoonful of each in order to help the brain development of my baby. It is a common misconception that oil makes us fat. And I cannot tell you how aggravating it is that so many people think in terms of calories and not overall health. We Westerners would do well to adopt a more Eastern approach to our bodies by looking at the whole wellness of the body instead of attacking one area. To deny yourself critical oils because of a diet might make you thinner but your face and skin will likely age more rapidly because (for instance) the integrity of the cell membrane has been compromised. Yes, avocados may be high in calories but you should be exercising and the oil in avocados is one of the best for your body, your immunity, your skin and keeping you young. At 105 pounds while maintaining a diet that includes an avocado a day I can tell you that drinking the right oils will not harm you.
Essential fatty acids are, as they sound, fats that are necessary within the human body. Though you’ve probably often heard the word “fats” and associated it with bad health, there are some essential fatty acids that are necessary for your survival. Without them, you could cause serious damage to different systems within the body. Essential, unoxidized oils speed up fat metabolism. This is a widely misunderstood aspect of human metabolism. Essential oils provide a steady-state source of energy, and prevent sugar-insulin-adrenaline roller coasters. Other clinical benefits of essential oils include their value in the prevention and management of the following disorders: Continue reading

So many girls I know won’t eat avocados out of fear that they will make them fat. But eating avocados is like feeding eggs to a show dog. Everything will gleam apres! I eat avocados daily and am far from fat!
Avocados contain the kind of fat that is critical to anti-aging and great skin – polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fats. These fats help your skin to retain moisture. Without moisture our body functionality and metabolic processes are reduced leading to inflammation, puffiness and a decrease in the release of toxins. But avocados contain even more beneficial advantages: Continue reading
I knew a girl in Manhattan who was famous for her vast wealth, her couture day wear, her Park Avenue spread and her shiny skin. Let’s call her G.G. – for Glow Girl.
G.G. was a chain smoker but she had better skin than non-smokers. After a particularly messy cocktail party chez elle, I cornered her in her bedroom and demanded her secret. We were enveloped in a huge cloud of smoke (we were both lit) and I could barely see her but for the effervescent gleam of her skin which was like a private light source. Continue reading
The quick answer is yes. But the more convoluted response is not necessarily. As a passionate ex-hedonist and former party girl (known as ‘the vampire’ or ‘Dorian Grey’ because I never age) there were certain tricks I employed to balance my intake and slow my exposure to cocktails and smoke.
Cigarettes (and other smokable substances)
- If you are deeply obsessed with anti-aging (which I was), pre-roll American Spirit Organic tobacco before you go out and whack them in your purse. My Serbian grandma Daisy was a chain-smoker but never looked old. She told me that it is the chemicals in the tobacco and the filters on the cigarettes which are what are really bad for you. I don’t like soggy cigarette ends so I always add a little stiff-paper filter – usually from somebody-I-plan-on-forgetting’s business card. Continue reading
