Maca – The Big Mac of Superfoods

Do you know how many of my 40-65 year old male friends brag to me that they have discovered the “miracle natural viagra”? Thirteen and counting so far.  And that ‘viagra’ ladies, is Maca – an innocuous looking white powder that is not for snorting!

Maca is a root from Peru; it’s a tuber, like a potato, and offers an amazing energy boost for those with low energy. Maca however, unlike coffee, offers energy in a non-caffeinated way that supports the body.  It is a nutritionally dense super-food that contains high amounts of minerals, vitamins, enzymes and all of the essential amino acids. Maca root is rich in B-vitamins, which power all processes in the body, and maca is a vegetarian source of B-12. To boot, maca has high levels of bioavailable calcium and magnesium and is great for the remineralization of your body.  Don’t forget that our soil has been badly depleted of minerals thanks to large-scale farming and fertilizers.  A tomato today is not as rife with minerals as the tomatoes our grandparents ate! Bee Pollen – A Superfood that Fights Aging!

Nutritional Yeast – What is it and Why Does it Prevent Aging?

Nutritional yeast looks like wheat germ and tastes like a nutty, flaky, grated cheddar cheese. It is made from a single celled organism sporting the impressive name: Saccharomyces Cerevisiae, which is grown on molasses and then harvested, washed and dried with heat to kill or ‘deactivate’ it.  Because it is inactive, it doesn’t froth or grow like baking yeast.  Don’t confuse it with Brewar’s Yeast as it has nothing in common AND, it will not give you a yeast infection (as many misguided people believe!).
