Non-Stick Pans aka Suicide Pans – Use Them if You Want to Age and Get Sick

Please do not tell me you are still using non-stick cookware!  If so, get rid of them ASAP!  Non-stick cookware is made using a carcinogenic chemical called perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA).  Every time you cook, the heat ignites this chemical and it is released into the air and your food.  Humans are exposed to the man-made compounds known as perfluoroalkyl acids—including perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) and perfluorooctanesulfonate (PFOS)—through drinking water, dust, food packaging, breast milk, microwave popcorn, air, occupational exposure and blod from the umbilical cord. Perfluoroalkyl acids are used during the manufacture of fluoropolymers, which give non-stick heat resistance to cookware and breathable, waterproof properties to fabrics and upholstery. PFOA and PFOS may also result from the breakdown of compounds used as coating for commercial food packaging, factory treatments for fabrics and carpets and manufacturer pretreatment for stain-resistant clothing.

In addition, at high temperatures, the coating of non-stick cookware breaks down into a chemical warfare agent known as PFIB, and a chemical analog of the WWII nerve gas phosgene.

Over time, most cookware is exposed to cuts and scrapes which accelerates your exposure to chemicals.

95% of Americans have PFOA in their blood. PFOA is extremely hardy and stays in the human body for years. According to Environment Working Group, even if all new exposures to PFOA were stopped, it would still take over 4 YEARS for your body to get rid of half of the PFOA that’s accumulated in your organs and tissues! The chemical has been linked to cancer and birth defects in. It has also been found in the blood of marine organisms and Arctic polar bears. It has leached into the oceans. Recent national survey results reported detection of PFOA and PFOS in almost all samples of human serum.

How PFOAs and PFOs affect your health? Let’s see, besides cancer and birth defects, these chemicals have been known to affect the functioning of the endocrine system – especially the thyroid.

Ceramic, glass and cast iron cookware are the safest bet.
